He is not bought by the greed of wealth or by the self fame also. notesblognepal.blogspot.com

Explanation of the poemnotesblognepal.blogspot.com

This poem has been composed by Sir Walter Scott. In this poem the poet illustrates one of the heavenly qualities in human beings and the quality of patriotism. He says that one should be patriotic and should have deep love and respect for his motherland.notesblognepal.blogspot.com
He says that a man who has no love for his motherland is like a dead person. It is difficult to believe that a man spiritually so dead that he has no love for his native land after travelling in foreign lands. But if such an unpatriotic person does exist, we must take careful note of him and his career. We will find that he shall never inspire poets to celebrate him in deathless or immortal song. He may be a man of high rank, of noble family and may greed, but these great advantages or benefits will not save him from oblivion. In spite of them all he will win no fame during his lifetime and when he dies he will die in a double sense. First, his body will return to dust from where it came, and secondly his name will be forgotten. None will weep or feel sorry for him, none will honour and pay homage to his departed soul. No poet will keep his name alive in the immortal poetry.notesblognepal.blogspot.com
An unpatriotic person may collect huge wealth, earn name and fame in a foreign country and become a powerful person. But all these power and wealth ore of no value since there is nobody to praise him. All his title is useless to him if he does not have the sense of love and honour for his native land. He is most miserable person. Nobody will be proud of him because he lives only for self and not for his native land. Such person dies twice in his life and leads a very miserable and shameful life. No poet will sing songs in his honour and keep his name alive in the golden pages of immortal poetry.notesblognepal.blogspot.com
